Home-schoolers and a Hay Maze

A good friend of mine and her husband work hard most of the summer to create this awesome hay maze. They invited all of the home-schoolers to come to their home for a fun afternoon of fellowship, encouragement and refreshment.

The children all had a great time climbing on the huge bales,

Rolling pumpkins,

And just hanging out.

Oh yes and pointing at the adults that were enjoying some adult conversation.

They even took time to paint some awesome faces on some of the bales.
We had a great time. Thank you for all you do.

Who or What is Wooing You!

Today I had the privilege of listening to Kirk Cameron and his wife Chelsea as they discussed marriage on Focus on the Family. If you would like to listen to the program follow this link. It is a two part message.

Making Your Marriage a High Priority 1

During the first section Kirk had mentioned that he had never been tempted to have an affair and had promised his wife and God that it would never happen. But 14 years into the marriage when things seemed to be ho hum He found himself being drawn away. He was not being drawn away by another woman but by the Church. People wanted to hear what he had to say when he was speaking, they laughed with him and made him feel important. He began to immerse himself in his ministry leaving his family behind.

Is there anything wooing you away from your spouse? Away from your children? Work, computer, internet, sports, TV... I would have never thought that ministry could be a mistress. But after hearing his message I can clearly see it now. Yes God wants us to work for him. He wants us to spend time with him reading his word spreading the gospel and so on. But if you are also blessed to have a spouse and a family he also desires for you to be involved in those relationships as well. When I think of ministry I find that there are many areas that we as an entire family can serve together, we can study Gods word together, volunteer together.

My prayer today is that God helps us to purge that mistress from our lives so that The Holy Union that God Himself instituted can remain strong and intact. That our family's will grow in love and in Gods word. In Jesus Name Amen!

Making Your Home A Haven #2

Challenge # 2 is all about adding a comforting sound to your home via music. The suggestion was to choose classical, calming or worship style music. This is right up my ally. I love music and often have it playing in the background of our home during the day. The second part of challenge #2 is will be a challenge for me. Not only should our homes sound peaceful by playing music but our attitudes, voices and temperaments should also be peaceful and loving. I try to do this however find my self taking on the attitudes of those around me. So if my son is frustrated and angry with school I tend to also become frustrated and angry. If my husband becomes frustrated or angry the same thing happens. So my Goal for this week is to keep peace in my home. Does that mean everyone will get along swimmingly. I doubt it for we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. But how I respond to the situations can make it a little more peaceful. Keeping my voice calm, my attitude positive and my thoughts on God! Lord I pray that you will help me with this challenge!

Joshua 8&9

10/05/10
Joshua 8
AI Destroyed

Today God delivered the city of AI into the hands of the Israelites. God told them to set up an ambush in-order to take the city. They did as they were told and every man from AI and Bethel fell right into the ambush. Every man died not one lived. They set fire to the city and collected the plunder for them selves as God had commanded. Joshua hung the king of AI from a tree until evening then buried him in a heap of rocks at the entrance to the city. 12,000 men and women died that day.

Wednesday 10/06/10
Joshua 9
The Gibeonite Deception

The Gibeonites were afraid of what the Israelites with the help oft he Lord would do to them since it was well know that the Lord had given the Israelites this land and that all it's inhabitance would be destroyed. So they disguised them selves as weary travelers from a far off land and asked for a treaty of peace. Joshua granted this treaty but later discovered the truth. They were neighbors not from a far off land. But the treaty was made and Joshua honored it by allowing them to live but cursed the Gibeonites by making them wood cutters and water carriers for the entire community.

Take And Eat, Take and Drink

Tomorrow is Communion Sunday at church. This is the day that we poor miserable sinners get to partake of the true body and Blood of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In this wonderful sacrament we are offered forgiveness of our sins.

I was paging through my hymnal this evening and stumbled upon one of my favorite hymns that is designated for the Lords Supper. I would like to share it with you. I particularly love verse three!

HYMN 629 What is This Bread (LSB hymnal)

What Is This Bread?

What is this bread?
Christ’s body risen from the dead:
This bread we break,
This life we take,
Was crushed to pay for our release.
O taste and see–the Lord is peace.

What is this wine?
The blood of Jesus shed for mine;
The cup of grace
Brings His embrace
Of life and love until I sing!
O taste and see–the Lord is King.

So who am I,
That I should live and He should die
Under the rod?
My God, my God,
Why have You not forsaken me?
O taste and see–the Lord is free.

Yet is God here?
Oh, yes! By Word and promise clear,
In mouth and soul
He makes us whole–
Christ, truly present in this meal.
O taste and see–the Lord is real.

Is this for me?
I am forgiven and set free!
I do believe
That I receive
His very body and His blood.
O taste and see–the Lord is good.
