Pork- N -Corn Feed

Each year Concordia Lutheran Church holds a Pork-N-Corn Feed. This event is open to the entire community.

It takes many people to help put on the Pork-N-corn Feed each person had a job that they had to do. The young kids had to shuck the corn!

While some of the grown men were in charge of keeping the big boiling pots boiling.

Just look at all that delicious corn. We get it from a guy who is in MT.

Here is the big Grill/Smoker that they cook the pork on. It was very juicy and had lots of flavor!

Here is a close up shot of the delicious pork! There were three guys carving the meat.

Others made sure that there was plenty of beans to go around.

These guys loaded the plates for the customers. Tim made sure there was plenty of butter on the corn.

The teens helped by being servers. The guests would come in and once they were seated the teens would bring them a plate piled high with food.

Then they would bring around extras just incase you needed secconds of anything.

Over all I would say that it was a success and that the people were well fed. They spent lots of time visiting with the people at their tables.

Picking Choke Cherries

This morning Ansir and I went berry picking again. This time we went to the land of never ending berries.

As you can see Ansir had no problem picking the berries to fill his bucket.

The day was beautiful. When we got there at 9:30 AM it was a cool 51 degrees It did start to warm up as the time went on and the sun came out stronger.

Not all of the berries were ready for picking.

But the trees did hang full of berries that were just right for picking.

They had a beautiful purple color.

Doesn't it almost remind you of what the garden of Eden may have looked like with a never ending supply of fruit.

This is only part of the grove that housed these berries. There are so many trees that we didn't even make a dent in them.

By 10:30 AM our 4 buckets were full of berries and we loaded up and came home! What a wonderful morning.

Choke Cherry Jelly

This was certainly easier than getting the juice from the berries.
My jelly turned out perfect!

My pictures were a little blurry but you can see how nice it looked.

Look at the rich color.

Everyone thought it tasted pretty good too!
Thanks for the advice on making jelly mom, grandma and Irene.

Choke Cherry Juicing

Is it just me or is there a lot of work that goes into extracting the Juice.

As I was squeesing out the juice my mind wondered to visions of my grandma. She always had the strongest hands and could wring out even the toughest materials. If a lid was stuck we would take it to Grandma beacuase we knew how strong her hands were. Even though her had was slightly crippled she still had tremendous strength in her hands.

I could have used her strong hands today. I never realized how much time and effort one needed to complete this task. As you can see I made a mess. Can you see the big kettle. Before I started squeezing the berries it was full.

Now this is all the pulp and seeds. And after all that I only got a half of a ice cream pail full of juice. I hope it is worth it!

Sunday at Grandma & Grandpa Suttons

This weekend we went to visit Tim's Parents on the farm that they work on. We had a great visit. The first thing to meet us as we drove up to the yard were their 9 dogs. If you close your eyes I bet you can hear them announcing our arrival.

The dog laying down in Babe and the other black lab is snowflake. Snowflake is their oldest dog and used to go to the nursing home to help cheer up the residence. There are two dogs like the brown one walking away one is named cricket. Cricket loves to lick. She is obsessed with licking and can't control herself. The other one has an awesome name it is Scarlet O'Hara.

We can't remember this dogs name but she is the momma to all the rest of the little dogs.

This is another shot of buddy she very happy and loves to play catch!

This is Princes and yes she believes she is the princes. She seems to always get her way! She along with Rosco of course was the only one of the 9 who got to go for a car ride.

This is Irene's horse Marriah. She is very pretty. There are two more horses and a goat that likes to jump the fence. I didn't get their pictures.

This is a great picture of Tim and his Dad. They were riding around on the farm looking for work to do.

Guess what? They found some.

This is fertilizer that had been rained on. They had to chip it out of the truck so that the truck can be used to haul grain. Tim and Ansir got to use team work to get the job done.

Ansir actually volunteered to help Tim out. I was very proud of him.

Irene (Tim's Mom) got in on the action too. I bet you are wondering about me? Sorry I was too busy snapping pictures.

Irene has 33 chickens and 3 turkeys I believe. This turkey wasn't feeling up to par so she was checking on him.

Here are all the chickens.
They were picking on the turkey.

Speaking of picking Ansir got to pick eggs for the first time. Grandma Sutton had to show him how. He even found one still warm from being excreted from the chicken. Rosco also found the chickens to be very entertaining especially once he figured out that he could make them jump, fly and squawk. But then he discovered the electric fencer and was very disgusted.

Grandma also has a calf in her yard. He is pretty cute especially when his face is covered in milk!

They also have llamas at their place. Irene said that the newest baby is hers. It is at the main farm right now with it's mother but will soon move to their farm yard.

We also went chock cherry picking and Ireen took me through all the steps to make jelly. I can't wait to try it. Over all this was a fun trip.

My Baby Boy

Look at my precious baby boy enjoying his new baby swing!
J/K this is the swing I bought for $5 at the garage sale for the little girl I am babysitting. I hope she enjoys it more than Rosco did. I know we are very strange people. Perhaps this is what happens when people do not have babies of their own. they have to play pretend with their little dogs.

We also got this cute pink Bouncy Seat for $5.
Tim decided they need to make one for adults.

Pray Continuously

"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, KJV). The Greek word "without ceasing" means continuous action. Therefore, “praying without ceasing” means to pray continuously.

This is something that I know I do not do well. I desire to pray continuously but some how my mind continuously strays to other things. I try to use my prayer journal on a regular basis and I also have made prayer list that I can look at to help focus my thoughts. At the top of my prayer list is the request from God to help me to trust Him in all things and to Pray with out ceasing. I desire for my faith to grow and for my knowledge of my savior to also grow. I desire to serve him according to his will. I know with out a shadow of a doubt that He will help me for he promises to do so in John 14:14 "
You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." Mark 11:24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

So how about you? Do you have difficulty following this verse? Do you suddenly feel compelled to stop and pray for someone or something during your day?

May the Lord Bless you on your journey through this life as you actively serve your Savior Jesus Christ in Thought, Word and Deed!

I have painted color on the walls.

As some of you may know I have been busy painting walls this week.
I finally chose some colors to put on the walls.

This is the before picture of the kitchen.

After
I chose a yellow color for the walls in the kitchen. Sorry about the mess. I was painting and cooking dinner. Not a pretty site. I do not think I like this color. I actually was going for more of an earthy yellow and got this bright primary color yellow. I think I will take the paint back to the store and see if they can re-tint it and tone it down some. It almost looks like the walls turned out a different color than the beam that is across the ceiling.

Here is the living room before.

And After

Here is the color I chose for the living room. I like it a lot. At first I thought it was too dark but once all the walls were painted it feels warm and cozy. Perhaps it will give us a warm feeling during the cold months of winter.
