Promethean Board

I can't say enough about my new "Teaching Tool". I feel so blessed to have this opprotunity. I don't know if I will want to teach any other way. If you have never seen one or used one you should check out your local schools to see if they have one you can play with. Or you can check out this site: Promethean Planet US You can actually watch a teacher use this piece of technology with her class. Perhaps I'll take some pictures of how i'm using the board in my first grade classroom for you to see.

Lock Down

On Tuesday at about 10:30 the announcement came that our school was in a lock down. The teachers and children moved quickly to hide in our secret places. I was wondering if I had missed the announcement earlier that morning about a practice. But after about 15 minutes I along with the children realized that it was not a drill it was the real deal. I was so proud of my little first graders. They were so brave and not one cried. They followed instructions to the T. When more information was available the children never skipped a beat and prayed for the boys and girls at our local high school who were in the immediate threat. We stayed in lock down for about 2 hours. It turned out to be a hoax. A young 15 year old boy was "joking" when he told the police about a boy with a gun. Thank our Heavenly Father for keeping everyone safe. It turned out to be a great life lesson about lying. The boy is in big trouble and my students commented on the importance of telling the truth.

Easter Dinner

Doesn't this meal look delicious? I bet your hungry. My boys were by the time I had it all set out for dinner. It was all I could do to snap this picture before they got their grubby little paws on my fancy dinner. I had never cooked spiral ham before and I must say that it is much easier than I thought it would be. The toughest thing i had to make was the pie crust. Its hard to roll it out and get it in the pie plate. But it was worth the flower spilling on the dog and the flower covered shirt to present this special dinner on such a special day.

Take a look at this little dog. He was shocked and delighted to receive such a fine treat after dinner. He was hesitant at first thinking surly they must be mistaken. Then he dug right in with both paws and all of his teeth. Trying as hard as he could to get the bits of meat that lingered on the bone. I think he thought I best eat quickly lest they take it away. Yummm.

Dying Easter Eggs

We did not have school on Thursday so we figured that it was a perfect day to die our eggs. We had some friends from school come to our house to play so each person got to die 8 eggs. They had a fabulous time. I did not include the friends in these picture because I did not ask permission from their mother. Any how as you can see they concentrated very hard. We only had two spills. I was thankful that I do not have carpet in my kitchen.

As you can see they did a wonderful job with the eggs. Unfortunately "the Easter Bunny was not as careful and when he was sneaking the eggs out of the fridge the handle on the basket broke and all the eggs went tumbling all over the floor. It was quite the commotion. The eggs never did get hid instead they will have to go into some egg salad sandwiches. But Tim and Ansir didn't mind they have been hounding me all weekend to eat those eggs.

If you look very hard at the eggs in this picture you can see that the shells are all dented and cracked. It was a sad situation.

Falls Park in Sioux Falls, SD

After the Geography B we decided to say an extra night in Sioux Falls. I had never seen the falls and I must say that even though they are not the biggest Waterfalls I have ever seen they are very beautiful. I was surprised at how much litter was in and around the falls. I had to be selective when taking pictures so that I did not show you the garbage. My son just loved the foam that the falls made. It would float in the air and he was even able to catch some of it.

This is a picture of My son gazing into the distance. This is also my attempt at photography. He thought it was silly but as you can see he is quite a handsome subject to photo graph. untill he acts silly!

This would be my son acting silly.

Geography B Finals

My son did a fine job representing Zion School at the Geography B finals. The questions were very hard and he did his best to try and answer each question given. He didn't make it into the top 10 but still tried his best. I think he learned how much work it takes to become one of the best! One of the boys from his original group of 20 went on to win the entire thing. So we will be anxiously awaiting the nationals to see how he does.

This is a picture of My son facing the judges awaiting his questions. And a picture of his certificate. We are so proud of him.

As you can tell My son needed a tasty reward for enduring 8 long rounds and 8 hard questions. I think he enjoyed every bite.
